What I have learnt #1
Like Forrest Gump some days I just sits and other days I sits and thinks. In a bakery come coffee shop at Griffith I was
doing some of the latter and two things that I have learnt on this trip came to mind.
Firstly if you want to set up a successful business in a country town, it should be a combination of bakery, coffee shop and sandwich bar, for the sake of brevity lets give them acronym of BACOSA. Whenever I arrive in a new town for breakfast the most popular shop in town seems to be the BACOSA. Maybe its the smell of freshly baked bread, maybe its because they open early, who can tell? The standout example of a BACOSA is in Narranderra, where just like the soup nazi's shop in Seinfeld, you are forced to queue in a single expectant, uncomplaining, glacial line that seems to stretch forever. The wait is worth it, next time you are in downtown Narranderra, with nothing to do, drag your sorry arse over to the shop and see what I mean.
Secondly how can some mothers allow there 3 year old to run amok in the BACOSA, causing havoc left right and centre. Whilst the mother alternatively screams at them to sit down, makes threats that the child knows will never be carried out or panders to their every little wish. You would think the little bastard knew exactly what he was doing. Next to me in the BACOSA in Griffith is a mother with 4 children ranging in age from a babe in arms to 4 years. Each one of them is a little angel. The mother sends signals that are imperceptible to me, that control their behavior. She is a behavioral genius; a mother of the year in waiting, there is PhD here for some one.
