I must look a fright

Day 146 - Lameroo. I have been bush camping for a few days now and its probably showing, I have noticed that people were moving upwind from me when I went into town, nothing a shower won't fix.

Well I finally found an Echidna, this wasn't easy, it has taken me nearly 5 months. When I stay in a National Park I go on the walking trails late in the afternoon looking for wildlife, especially an Echidna. At Newland National Park, it finally happend. He is a cute little fellow isn't he, what's really obvious is how well his colouring enables him to blend into the background, you will probably need to look at the large version of the photo to see him in his full glory. All that's left now is a Koala and a Platypus.

I am very careful when driving not to create road kill, its relatively easy to avoid Goannas, Snakes, Roos etc, but birds just seem to want to commit suicide. So far my tally stands at 4, a Galah, a Currawong, a Crested Pidgeon and a an unidentified parrot (probably a Mallee Ringneck), based on these numbers my estimated roadkill will be between 8 & 10 for the complete trip, I will keep you updated.

My last visit to a Seal Colony was very underwhelming, people claimed that the pictures of seals weren't really seals but pebbles on the beach. I have made an extraordinary effort to get some proper seal photos, it involved not insignificant expense, so be warned I will be passing the hat around to help defray my expenses when I return. The first one is a New Zealand Fur Seal, the rest are Australian Sealions.

This is beach you come to after hiking through the scrub for an hour (and remember its an hour to get back!), not sure if it was worth it, I reckon its about a 15 minute hike view at most.
Finally some more inselbergs, we haven't had any for a while. I think these are really interesting in that they have eroded away into very unusual shapes. No doubt the eagle eyed geologists amongst you will have noticed the xenoliths in the foreground.
