King of the Road

Day 181 - Rosebery. To the left is a bloody big tree (its a Eucalyptus regnans, the worlds largest flowering plant), its 87 metres high, at the base it is wide enough to park your car, you have to see it to believe it. It is by no means the largest one in Tasmania there are another 15 or so that are taller including one that is over 100 metres high.
Driveway service is something that service stations used to, a very long time ago, offer to its customers. For all of you who never experienced it, when you pulled up at a service station an attendant would come out and fill your petrol tank for you, clean your windscreen, check your oil, take your money and return with your change if there was any. I haven't seen it for maybe 30, or it might be 40 years, but I have experienced it twice on my trip to Tasmania. I didn't have the heart to the tell them that no one else does it and that we are all capable of filling our own cars these days.
There are all sorts of ways to incentivise customers to buy things from you, loss leaders, buy one get one free are an examples that spring to mind. I have just had first hand experience of another method, go out for a coffee and lock your unseen customer in the store. Having some time to kill I popped into a antiques shop for a sticky and put all those skills I learned watching 'Antiques Roadshow' to use. I was busy looking at some Claris Clift pottery thinking my god the prices were way over the top, when I suddenly realised the owner had walked out locking the front door behind her. I rushed to the door to get her attention but she was gone and was all by myself with no way to get out. Eventually she came back and I was able to escape, I bet she felt a real goose.
While travelling on Friday I spent my time, listening to Tammy, Charlie, Johnny, Brenda, Ned, Leroy, Pattie, Kenny, Freddy, Don, et al. What a wonderful singalong I had in the car, it bought back lots of childhood memories of listening to the Country & Western show on radio 3MA. Then I thought what about a little quiz for all my avid followers, we haven't had one yet and what better topic than country and western. So here it is, answers next blog.
- Jimmy sings 'At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man', who is it?
- Who does Tammy reckon you should stand by.
- Ned played an Ace and won what?
- What do the Crystal Chandeliers light up?
- What does Kenny keep asking Ruby not do.
- Patty was 'Dancing with her darling to the' what?
- When Leroy tells us 'To walk on by', what should we do next.
