On the Road Less Travelled

Day 217 - Mt Morgan. Stopped at Alpha for the day, there was a Camp Draft on so I went down for a look. It was a pretty big day, horses all over the place, I don't know anything about camp drafting but everybody seemed to be having lots of fun. Pictures left and down below.

Further to my last blog I have been advised by my mate Nick, that Colin Peterson (who played Smiley) went on to have a musical career including being the drummer for the Bee Gees. See he wasn't just a pretty face.

The grey nomads are now starting their migration northward, I continue to see more and more of them. I am not sure what this all means for my trip, one things for sure though I am going to have to get to some of the more popular camping spots earlier than the rest of the hordes so as to secure myself a site.

Check the look of frustration on the girls face, she wasn't happy. I think it was because the steer (or heifer?) went around the pole in the wrong direction.
Some more action from the Camp Draft and no it isn't the same girl as above, the girls all seem to wear the same outfit, or maybe it was the same girl on a different horse who can tell.
The bar at the Ilfracombe Hotel, note the collection of old hats on the wall. You can also see money stuck to the ceiling, if you want to know how they do it, you need to part with $5 and the bar staff will show how its done. Every now and then they take it all down and donate it to a charity.
The drive in theatre at Jericho, it's in the main street! Embiggen it to get a better view. There are seats either side of the projection box, kids to the left and adults to the right. They still show movies once a month. Why is it called Jericho?, there is a sort of biblical connection; it's on the Jordan River. If this Jericho had walls and they came tumbling down there is no archeological evidence of where they might have been nor have any locals heard of a bloke called Joshua.
Looking towards the 8th green at the Springsure Golf Club, the photo doesn't do it justice. The view from the first tee and clubhouse is something special, I tried to take some photos but it was too dark, believe me though it is one of the best views on a golf course I have had the pleasure of seeing. The course also a railway line running through the middle of it, which I reckon would be the cause of all sorts of strange happenings on competition days. I wonder what sort of obstruction a train would be? I suppose it would depend on whether or not the train was moving.
The main street of Ilfracombe. When I say main street I should really say the "Capricorn Highway" (it is the main route from Brisbane to Darwin) so they see a lot of Road Trains, The buildings are in order, looking away, the General Store & Cafe, Post Office, Pub and Caravan Park.
