Day 217 - General Gordon Hotel (est. 1886) near Homebush QLD. Named after Major General Charles George Gordon, CB, also known as Chinese Gordon and Gordon of Khartoum. In Victorian times he was a major celebrity, when he died the outpouring of grief was very similar to that when Princess Diana died. There are numerous memorials to him; for example the suburb of Gordon in Sydney was named after him. The ultimate memorial though must surely be having a pub named in your honour.

Its been raining now for 4 straight days and the forecast is for even more rain over the coming days. So much for the great weather in Queensland, I know now why I much prefer the desert climate, a lot less rain, finer days, no humidity etc. I must not complain, I am told the farmers need it badly, lets hope it stops before they get too much.
