WINTER HOME CIRCUIT - CHELMSFORD, DEC 13 - John Ardley was indicted for having, in company with another person unknown, broken and entered the dwelling house of Francis Ruffle, of Earl's Colne, and stealing therefrom a pocket book, containing a 5/- Bank of England note, a 5/- note of the Braintree Bank, 5/- 10s in sovereigns and half sovereigns, and 11/- 1s in silver, and various other property. The prisoner, in his defence, denied all knowledge of the robbery. The jury returned a verdict of Guilty. Mr Justice Burrough directed judgment of death to be recorded against the prisoner, and at the same time intimated to him, that although his life would be spared, he must expect to leave the country for life.
